Season review – after the season is before the season

The season is over – the World Cup is done. It was a season with many highlights and a few setbacks. The two silver medals in Åre were clearly the peak. At the World Championships it was “back to basics”, and that worked straight away.

On top of that there were some very good races, like the first run in Saalbach, the second run of the individual slalom in Åre and the second run in Madonna – I really enjoyed those. Everything came together. Other runs, on the other hand, were enough to make me tear my hair out; the races in January in particular were very mixed. There’s still plenty of room for improvement. But in the end I finished 8th in the World Cup Starting List, despite a season that wasn’t exactly perfect.

So there’s still work to do, and because the motto is “after the season is before the season”, I’ll use the time – after a few days of skiing just for fun at home – to analyse every race individually with my team. By then you have some distance. It makes no sense to look at a race right afterwards, when emotions are running high. We’ll work out what went well and where there’s room to improve. Between early and mid-May I’ll start training again. The programme is tailored to me and put together by my coaches – a good three months to get my body into shape. In August it’s back to the glacier for the team training camp. And then the countdown to the next season begins. My goals for 2019/20 are clear: I want to be more consistent and faster. This year even my biggest strength, speed, didn’t always come through – next season I want to bring it back onto the slope.
