The classics are waiting

Now it’s one race after another: my favourite races are back on the programme – unfortunately the race in Kitzbühel was cancelled, a course I absolutely love. Kitzbühel would simply be the ultimate slalom.

A very difficult slalom – exactly the way I like it. But I’m very grateful that we’re allowed to race at all, and I’m looking forward to both races in Flachau. Of course it’s a shame that no spectators are allowed. They really push you, and from the fans’ feedback and cheering you can tell how fast you’re going. That’s missing, of course. The course in Flachau should suit me well too – you can really go for it there, and I’m fully motivated.

Every year I particularly look forward to the January races. Things are going well at the moment, so I’m expecting a lot. The first two races of the season didn’t go perfectly (only one run worked each time), but we reacted quickly and made some changes in training. The ski now grips and accelerates better, and that had an immediate positive effect. In the last two races I was fourth, both times with the fastest second run. I want to carry this momentum into the January races and aim for podiums.

Momentum is a good word. After last season, which was rather mixed, my team and I broadened our approach. That started with mindset, went on to improved physical fitness and extended to equipment. This means we can now react faster, as you’ve already seen this season. We learned a lot from last season’s mistakes – you learn more from defeats than from triumphs. This year all the measures we’ve taken should pay off, and after all it’s a World Championships year. I want to continue in Cortina in February just like at the last World Championships, which were very successful for me. Besides the slalom, I’ll probably compete in the team event again. So keep your fingers crossed for me for the January classics and the World Championships. As I said: now it’s one race after another.
